Harvesting the Lord's Way
My mission president M. Russell Ballard was a very innovative mission president. He learned about a technique that William Bradford was using in South America. When a person committed to baptism the missionaries would ask the person for a list of all their friends and family members and personally go and invite them to the person's baptism. This lacing together program was helpful in bringing many family members in to the gospel. Another method that he had us use was from Hartman Rector who had great success in the San Diego Mission called harvesting the Lord's way. This method entailed us going into all part-member and non-member homes and identifying the Holy Spirit using scriptures from the Book of John in the New Testament. Than we would ask them if we could bless their homes. Once on our knees using the Holy Priesthood and in the name of Jesus Christ we would cast out and bind any evil spirit and then pronounce a blessing on the individual people in their homes. This was a very intense process which required you to really have the Spirit since you were exercising the priesthood. I learned a great deal about the power of the priesthood and the laying on of hands as we literally blessed people throughout our mission. I wonder if there are any returned missionaries out there who had similar experiences.
